Liar's Dice
Roll five hidden dice and bluff your way through the bids: 1s are wild, call "Liar!" when a bid looks too high, and be the last player with dice.
Liar's Dice guide
Hidden dice, bold bids and one big question: are they bluffing? Call "Liar!" and lift the cups.
How to play Liar's Dice
- Choose Singleplayer to face one to five bots on Easy, Medium or Hard, or Online to play with 2-6 friends in a room or through Quick Play.
- Everyone starts with 5 dice. Each round all players roll secretly under their cups: you only ever see your own dice.
- On your turn, bid on how many dice on the whole table show one face, for example "4 fives". Use the face buttons and the - / + stepper; only legal raises can be picked.
- Or, instead of raising, press Liar! to challenge the last bid. All cups lift and the matching dice are counted, 1s included.
- Whoever was wrong loses a die and opens the next round. Lose your last die and you are out; the last player with dice wins.
Rules
- 1s are wild: they count as every other face. A bid of "5 fours" counts every 4 and every 1 on the table.
- Every bid must raise the previous one: a higher quantity of any face, or the same quantity of a higher face (3 fives can become 3 sixes or 4 of anything).
- Bidding on 1s: you can switch to 1s with at least half the quantity, rounded up (5 fours can become 3 ones). Switching back from 1s needs double the quantity plus one (3 ones can become 7 of any face). Raising 1s with more 1s just needs a higher quantity. A round cannot open on 1s.
- Calling Liar!: if the real count (with wild 1s) is at least the bid, the bid was true and the caller loses a die. Otherwise the bidder loses a die.
- The player who lost the die opens the next round. If that was their last die, the next player still in opens.
- Online, each turn has 30 seconds. If time runs out the game plays for you: it opens with one die of the face you hold most, raises with the smallest bid your own dice make likely, or calls Liar! when no raise looks likely.
- If a player leaves mid-round, that round is cancelled and everyone still in rolls again.
Tips and strategy
- Count what you know: with 15 dice on the table, about a third of the dice you cannot see will match any face other than 1 (thanks to the wild 1s).
- Bid on faces you hold. Your own dice are the only sure thing at the table.
- Watch what others bid: a player who keeps raising sixes probably has some.
- Switching to 1s halves the quantity, which can trap the next player into a bid that is hard to raise.
- As dice disappear, bids that were safe early on become risky: rethink the odds every round.
Questions
Can other players or spectators see my dice?
No. The server only sends each player their own dice. Nobody, not even spectators, sees anyone else's dice until somebody calls Liar! and every cup is lifted.
Why are 1s wild?
That is the classic rule (also known from Perudo): 1s count towards every other face, which keeps bids lively. Bids on 1s themselves only count actual 1s.
What happens if I run out of time online?
After 30 seconds the game plays a sensible move for you: a small raise backed by your own dice, or Liar! if every raise looks unlikely.
How many players can play?
Two to six players online. In singleplayer you play against one to five bots on Easy, Medium or Hard. Online matches pay XP and Gems like other online games.
